What actually happens on install day
Most single-fan installs are done in one visit. Here is the sequence, so nothing about the day is a surprise.
- Walkthrough and confirmationWe re-confirm fan placement, window pattern and switch location with you before anything is cut.
- Attic prepDrop cloths down, framing located, wiring path planned and existing venting verified one more time.
- Cut and mountCeiling opening cut clean, fan hung from framing with vibration isolation, duct run and sealed.
- Venting and electricalAdded exhaust venting if the assessment called for it, controls wired, damper checked for full closure.
- Test and walkthroughFan run on every speed, airflow confirmed, and we walk you through which windows to open and when to run it.
What we will not do
Cheap installs cut corners in predictable places. These are the ones that cost you later.
Skip the vent calculation
Installing a 6,000 CFM fan into 3 square feet of venting makes it loud, weak and hard on the motor.
Leave an unsealed damper
An uninsulated or leaking damper bleeds heated air into the attic all winter and cancels your summer savings.
Hang the fan off drywall
Vibration transmits into the ceiling and the mounting eventually works loose.
Block soffit intakes
Insulation pushed into soffits during attic work strangles the intake path the fan depends on.
Questions we get about installation
Do I need a permit?
Requirements vary by jurisdiction and by whether new circuits are involved. We handle permitting where it applies in your city or county.
Is the ceiling patched if placement changes?
Placement is settled before cutting, so this rarely comes up. If a change is unavoidable mid-job we repair the opening as part of the work.
Can you install a fan I bought myself?
Sometimes. We will assess the unit and your venting first, and we will tell you honestly if the fan is wrong for the house rather than install it anyway.
